This is the album Lenny Kravitz was destined to make, a bold move away from the bubblegum glam of every album since the classic 5.
It Is Time For A Love Revolution revives the finely manicured vintage sound that is Lenny Kravitz’s trademark.
His legendary retro sound incorporates elements of soft-and hard rock, soul, funk, reggae, psychedelic, folk and ballads layering face-melting-guitar-riffs over raw pounding drums, while he wails away in a way only Lenny can.
It Is Time For A Love Revolution is Kravitz’s usual mix of old school riffs, funky rhythms, and some rock and jazzy styled tracks. The album opens with a righteous one-two, the punchy “Love Revolution” followed by the swaggering “Bring It On” (featuring the “soothing” sitar stylings of Anishka Shankar).
Lenny carefully marries both his softer side and his fiery guitar prowess on this album, by including ballads such as the catchy epic, and first single, “I’ll Be Waiting”, as well as the Beatle-flavoured “Good Morning”, the gentle piano driven “A New Door” and the paternally conflicted “A Long Sad Goodbye”.
His talent showcase doesn’t stop at performing; he also took on most of the writing, arranging and production duties creating an album Rolling Stone Magazine called “… a visceral, expertly tailored blend of late-Sixties and early-Seventies classic-rock…”
In short, this album proves that love revolutions need not be tame.
