Expecting the usual pop sound that’s so typical of all the Idol winners, it was a surprise to find an album with an impressive mix of different sounds – it’s a successful mixture of pop and R&B and of course the powerful ballad is in there as well.
At only 17 Jordin Sparks was the youngest ever winner in the history of American Idol. This teenager’s got talent and it’s obvious when you listen to her debut album.
It’s ironic to think that this magical voice wasn’t good enough at the Los Angeles auditions of the sixth American Idol series. She went back home and won Arizona Idol, which meant an automatic entry to the Hollywood auditions and another chance to sing in front of the judges.
At the tender age of 13 she recorded a five-song album and since then music became her life. On her official site she shares her thoughts on recording her debut album that include hits like “Tattoo” and a bonus track “This Is My Now”, the song she sang on the American Idol finale. “When I listen to a demo I like to know how it was done. I try to imagine what I can bring to it,” she says. “Put my spin to it. All my favorite artists, whether contemporary or classic – all had a way of making that certain song their own. I don’t know if I had a plan for this album so much as I had a method. To give myself to each session, each song – every note. I think in the end that’s how you create the full spectrum for your fans.”
“No Air” is a duet she recorded with well-known R&B artist Chris Brown. The single, which was officially released in February and is climbing the charts worldwide, was produced by The Underdogs – known for hits from artists like Babyface and Justin Timberlake.
Yes, Sparks had an A-list of producers and songwriters behind her while she was recording this album, but no one can deny that this teenager has got a powerful talent and this will definitely not be her last hit album. |
