Mariah Carey is known for her piano influenced ballads, but E=MC2, her 11th studio album, is a fresh approach to her incredible voice and vocal range as it includes something for everyone. With this album she shows off her rap and disco influences mixed well with her trademark sound as the Queen of love songs.
Two weeks before the album’s release in the US, “Touch My Body” - the first single off the album, became Carey’s 18th number one single on the American Hot 100. The single was a major hit worldwide and gave the album, as well as Carey, much sought after publicity.
E=MC2 is a successful mixture of a wide variety of influences. On “Cruise Control” Carey and Damian Marley introduce reggae to the album and “I’m That Chick” has a catchy disco feel to it that will no doubt get feet on the dance floor.
Carey mentions a few personal thoughts in “Side Effects” (ex-husband and record boss Tommy Matola) and “Bye Bye” (an ode to her father), but it’s “Last Kiss” that fans of Carey’s amazing vocals and high notes will love. The track makes you realise why The Guinness Book of Records recorded that no other singer could hold a higher note than Carey.
“I Wish You Well” is a rich and soulful piano ballad that only a diva like Carey can do justice to. It’s the perfect ending to the album and compliments her vocal range.
There’s no doubt that E=MC2 will produce quite a few hits and number ones and that Carey’s fans worldwide will love it. It could possibly even grow on people that aren’t fans of the American diva. |
