Six short years. That’s how long the world has been taking notice of Anastacia. Who would think back in 2000 with the release of her first song “I’m outta love,” (some would argue her biggest hit to date), this singer would just storm the charts every few months with a new song.
A lot has been written about Anastacia’s unique "sprock" sound (soul-pop-rock) and powerful voice. Personally, up to now, I’ve battled to listen to an Anastacia CD from beginning to end. Yes, she’s got a brilliant voice, but it’s one of those voices I’ve only been able to take in in small dosages. However, with the release of this album, I find myself listening to it and hitting PLAY again after the last track has played.
If you haven’t bought an Anastacia album before, this is well worth the money featuring 17 tracks, including 4 new songs and a Megamix. Current hit “I Belong To You” is present and Anastacia shares vocal duties with Eros Ramazzotti on what is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful ballads and biggest songs of 2006 so far.
It's debatable whether it's the second or third realease in an artist's career that is the most critical in establishing staying power. Some boybands have been turning out Greatest Hits compilations after only 3 or 4 years together, but we all know there's a huge market for boy band pop. When you've got a distinct sound like Anastacia, releasing 3 albums in 6 years, every one of them spurning a few hits, and then following it up with a Best Of, takes some guts. Having bounced back after her treatment for breast cancer, superstar Anastacia has certainly, to reference one of her other big hits, paid her dues and maintains her status as one of pop's most respected performers.
