Is this the novelty artist of 2006? Is this proof that if you can whistle, you can sing? Is this proof that one song will sell a truckload of CD’s?
If you haven’t heard “Love Generation” by now or can’t whistle the, well, the whistle bit of the song when someone wakes you up at 3am, you’ve either been hiding in a cave somewhere or marooned on an island. It will probably be one of the biggest songs of the year in many people’s eyes (or should that be ears?). But it will also be one of those songs you’d want to forget about at the end of the year (if not now already). If it goes away, it’s the sort of song Martin will dust off again in 10 years time for Pump It or Dump It. And it will be pumped. Because people would still love it.
But fortunately for Mr Sinclar, this CD is bigger than just the first single. Second single “World, Hold On” also features, surprise surprise, a catchy little whistle bit. And it will probably be just as huge. Okay, sarcasm aside, I’ll admit, this CD has your feet tapping no matter how hard you try to right something scathing about it. The people involved have done their homework and they know what will sell. Anything wrong with that? Well isn’t the purpose of music to make you feel good? Put a smile on your face? Make you forget about the troubles, the debit orders, the bad report card little Johnny brought home?
In that case, add this to your collection and Pump It! If you like your songs to have meaning and reaffirm that life is out to get you, avoid this like the plague. Now excuse me while I turn up the volume and listen to my favourite track “For You.” I’m such a sucker. Blush.
