15 Compilations later… Some of them more misses than hits… but, here we are, Number 15 just hit the shelves at your nearest CD outlet. Can it truthfully be called The Hits?
Well let’s have a quick look here… Bob Sinclar is there and bonus points for not putting on Love Generation, a song that has by now featured on almost every conceivable dance release. No, included is his new hit “World Hold On.” So at least the compilers have ensured Number 15 stays fresher for longer.
Local music gets quite a big look-in with songs by Mark Beling, Lonehill Estate, Arno Carstens, DJ Jazzy D (with a cover of the classic “Lady Soul”) and Louise Carver all receiving The Hits treatment. For some strange reason, Ricky Martin’s last CD release didn’t do as well as it should’ve, but The Hits 15 should put things right by having “I don’t care” included, a really catchy little number by Mr Martin that should’ve registered much bigger on the charts.
Anastacia’s “Pieces of a Dream” is here. Great song, but shouldn’t it rather have been “I Belong to You,” her duet with Eros Ramazzotti? If you still haven’t added James Blunt to your CD collection, just keep on buying these compilations because soon all his songs off his debut CD would’ve featured together with other Hits of the Moment on a “Hits” or a “NOW” or a “I miss you, I think I’m gonna cry”-type release. Included here is “High.” There’s even a footstomper of note on here in the form of Hi-Tack’s “Waitin 4 U.”
Best tracks on the CD in my opinion? “Believe Me” by Fort Minor, “Far Away” by Nickelback and Craig David’s “Unbelievable.” Are there any blaringly “What the hell were they thinking ”moments on this CD? Well, you’ve gotta be objective… not every single song on a release like this is going to be a Hit in your own little world. So therefore I’ll excuse the inclusion of Sean Paul (I have yet to learn to “appreciate” his “contributions” to the music world) and give it a thumbs-up… Here’s looking forward to Sweet 16…
