Okay, and the award for best album title of the year is NOT going to Pink. “I’m not dead.” Weird. But then again, it is Pink we are talking about here.
Born Alecia Beth Moore, no one can blame her for choosing a catchier name to sell records with. The name Pink conjures up an unorthodox fashion sense and a soulful sound. This, her fourth album, is a double album with the second disk being a DVD containing a preview of Pink’s Live in Europe Concert DVD, an interview with the star and the “Stupid Girls” video amongst other publicity material. And yes, those are real diamonds attached to her teeth as revealed on The Ellen Degeneres Show.
Seems Eminem is not the only one who likes taking swipes at stars like Britney and Christina and Paris… Lead single “Stupid Girls” addresses Pink’s frustration with all the girlies in the entertainment world today. Not the type of song I would’ve thought should be the first single, but it did well for her. This CD also features current hit “Who knew,” a more accessible track that should appeal to a broader fanbase and do well chart-wise. She’s clearly got some issues with the state of the world today as “Dear Mr President” is an open letter to George Bush with some really pertinent questions asked in the lyrics: “How do you sleep while the rest of us cry… How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say good-bye?” Indeed. Doubt whether the White House will reply.
Be warned though, if the use of expletives in music puts you off, one or two of the tracks on this CD will shock you a tad. But Pink’s never been known for her subtlety. To quote an online reviewer on amazon.co.uk, “Some music is celebrated for its elegant subtlety; Pink's slams you over the head. Four albums in, she's not changing her formula.” Suddenly the tile of this CD makes a lot more sense.
