Remember Soft Cell? And their huge hit “Tainted Love?” Well, it’s featured on NOW 43. No, that doesn’t mean the compilers of volume 43 in the highly successful NOW series have lost the plot. It means track 1, possibly the biggest song on the CD, is Rihanna’s “SOS” which samples Soft Cell’s massive hit from the 80’s.
You simply cannot go wrong with NOW 43 (or any other NOW volume for that matter.) In fact, whenever a new NOW is released, you’re pretty safe just buying it without bothering to check the tracklisting while still in the store. That’s because you’re guaranteed you’re getting all the latest radio friendly hits. Clearly the charts belong to the ladies at the moment as reflected on NOW 43 with the latest songs from Pussycat Dolls, Kelly Clarkson, Nelly Furtado, Pink, Sugababes and Corinne Bailey Rae (and Rihanna of course) all present. Especially the Pussycat Dolls track “Beep” gets the fingers and toes tapping.
Lead single from animation smash Ice Age 2 is also here, Lee Ryan’s “Real Love.” It’s definitely his best song so far and proves he might have some staying power after all. NOW regulars Coldplay adds another hit to their CV with “The Hardest Part (if you’ve seen the video for this one, I think you’ll agree they must get the prize for freakiest video of the year.) I am glad to report local band Parlotones get recognition for their big hit “Colourful” and newcomers to the American rock scene, Fall Out Boy, gives this album a bit of an edgier side with their single “Sugar, we’re going down.” Although spelling isn’t T-Pain’s strong point, his hit “I’m N Luv (Wit a Dancer)” kind of summarises the feel for the last few tracks on NOW 43… laid-back and relaxed.
Like I said, if you’re tired of buying a full album for one track you like, you would know by now that NOW is the way to go. So take down this number: 43. Should be easy to find at any CD store… just find the Number 1 position on their Top 20.
