“All The Right Reasons” is certainly not a new release anymore, having already spawned 3 hit singles, but with Nickelback being confirmed touring SA in October, it’s definitely worth revisiting this, their 3rd studio album released since their first South African hit “How you remind me” (but their 5th album internationally).
Allegedly derived from the nickel in change one of the band member’s brothers frequently had to give customers back in his job at a Starbucks coffee shop, Nickelback has firmly established themselves as darlings of the rock scene with South African fans.
Some might say they’re the modern man’s Bon Jovi… ironic considering Nickelback was the main support act for Bon Jovi on the European & American legs of the latter's "Have a Nice Day Tour" in 2006. One of the main reasons for the band’s popularity is lead singer, Chad Kroeger’s very distinctive voice and their lyrics dealing mostly with either a new romance, the loss of romance, or the transition between love and hate in relationships. Although earlier albums included songs discussing problems such as parental desertion and domestic abuse, this album seems to be dealing more with nostalgia and friendships. This is especially evident in “Photograph” where Chad wants to know “What the hell is that on Joey’s head.” Hmmm. Won’t go down as the greatest lyrics ever written, but great song nonetheless.
The guitar and vocals are impressive throughout the album. Stand-out track is "Far Away," one of those slow songs that just grab you right from the word go… “All The Right Reasons” is an album that should appeal to fans of soft rock and fans of edgier rock in equal measures. Get it now, get to know the songs and then get your ticket for the concert… Because you’re going to feel slightly out when everyone else around you knows all the lyrics and you look like you rocked up at the wrong concert.
