How long can one person’s resume be? Hotel heiress, movie actress, reality television star, model, author, perfumer, nightclub impresario, style icon… is it possible for Paris Hilton to add “pop diva” to the long list?
She’s certainly made sure she’s enlisted the right people to help her produce her debut CD… Scott Storch (50 Cent, Beyoncé), Jonathan “J.R.” Rotem (Rihanna), and Dr. Luke (Pink, Kelly Clarkson). She also worked with songwriting heavyweights Kara DioGuardi (Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera, Ashlee Simpson), Billy Steinberg (Madonna, Cyndi Lauper), and Sheppard Solomon (Natalie Imbruglia). So this should be a runaway hit then? Well… let’s just say it will take few repeat listens to grow on this reviewer. That would be two or three listens this year. Then two or three in 2007 and maybe another two spins in 2008. If I don’t like it by then, I’ll give up. Seriously, if bubble-gu, sugary sweet, going absolutely nowhere music is your kinda thing, you’ll love this. Then again, if you’re male, 20 – 30 years old, and your collection of FHM is proudly displayed on the coffee table on the lounge, you would have already bought this.
First single “Stars are Blind” is by far the best track on the album. “Turn it up” is also not too bad… and of course, Paris has to ask the question “Do ya think I’m sexy,” a cover of the classic Rod Stewart song. At least now everyone can answer yes to the question. Just in case the music doesn’t convince you, Paris also kindly included a DVD featuring documentaries on the making of the album, behind the scenes footage and an interview with Paris. Watch that queue at the CD store getting longer now.
If you like your female pop with a bit more substance, rather stick to Christina or even Britney. However I have no doubt this CD will be a huge success. Simply because everything Paris touches turns into gold. She’s that rare type celebrity who cannot seem to put a foot wrong. Then again, so was Tom Cruise...
