The 49th Annual Grammy Awards, held at the Staples Centre on 11 February 2007 revealed many talented nominees and some very deserving winners. The Grammy Nominees 2007 C.D is jam-packed with a diverse selection of the past year’s most fantastic songs. It is sure to satisfy just about anybody’s music taste!
The C.D starts off with the abstract but invigorating sounds of Gnarls Barkley’s, “Crazy.” This song has taken the world by storm and the line… “the day that I lost my mind, there was something so pleasant about that day,” sums this song up rather nicely. It did, deservingly pick up the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album. Moving on to Mary J. Blige’s, “Be Without You,” we once again realise that this lady knows what she’s doing! Her unique style earned her 3 Grammy’s and “Be Without You” certainly warrants the praise. Track number three is from a “breath of fresh air” in the music industry… Corinne Bailey Rae’s voice and lyrics are catchy but with a little extra spice that sets her apart from the average artist. “Put your Records On” is a song that will live long on many a playlist. John Mayer’s utterly chilled out style is complimented by the deep passion that he so obviously puts into his music. His “Waiting on the World to Change” fully deserved the Grammy for Best Male Pop vocal Performance, as well as Best Pop Vocal Album for Continuum. The Red Hot Chilli Peppers continue to impress in the World of Rock with their four Grammy awards this year. “Dani California” further strengthens their position as a revolutionary and constant story of success. “Sexyback” is one of Justin Timberlake’s sexiest tracks yet… this one can’t be ignored and has received recognition from the word go! If you’re a JT fan, there’s no doubt you’re having a fantastic time in clubs right now!
The Dixie Chicks deserve their own paragraph this year! They picked up a whopping 5 Grammy’s, dominating in the main categories of Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year! “Not Ready to Make Nice” is such a powerful and heart wrenching song that it’s impossible not to notice its presence on every airwave known to man! The Dixie Chicks sung their hearts out with those “goose bump-perfect” voices and got the recognition they deserved.
Sheryl Crow is considered one of the world’s greatest female singers and her distinct sound is perfectly captured in “You can Close your Eyes. Pink’s “Stupid Girls” oozes the sound and feeling of “unruly teenagers causing havoc” and rebels up proceedings on this album. The ever-so-perfect “You’re Beautiful” by James Blunt may not have been honoured with a Grammy but in everyone’s heart it wins an award everytime it plays…
John Legend’s “Save Room” completes the “mellow yet passionate” trilogy with James Blunt and John Mayer. His music seems to capture people’s emotions whilst still maintaining an air of flirtation. Daniel Powter’s undeniably powerful hit “Bad Day” is also included, and although it didn’t pick up a Grammy it deserves its place on this C.D. The Fray’s “Over my Head (Cable Car)” is a great and easy-to-listen song. It would go down well on a long trip in the car or just about anywhere else. “Is it any wonder” by Keane remains a true “turn-up-the-volume” song to which you can sing at the top of your voice…
All in all, the songs on this C.D will inspire you, make you feel good, make you dance, make you sing and ultimately make you realize The Grammy’s have acknowledged some of the best music in a long time! It’s a great collection of songs to sum up a year of truly great music releases… an archive item for every household!
