Stiletto Safari: Miss World contestants get into the swing of things

Part two of the 2009 Miss World contestants' bush experience...

Following a shaky first day in the bush, the Miss World contestants found their feet in more comfortable footwear to improve their swing on the Legend Resort's Signature Golf Course. Despite a bit of coaching some of the girls could not improve their putting, but Miss Colombia Daniela Lalinde proved to be a natural on the green.

Lalinde was the only contestant to manage a bogey on the renowned Extreme 19^th hole (the longest par-three in golf) - only accessible by helicopter with the tee set 400 meters up the Hanglip Mountain and played to a green in the shape of the African continent. She joins the ranks of world-class professionals like Sergo Garcia and Trevor Immelman and will apparently tackle the resort's 18-hole Signature Golf course at a later stage.

The 112 Miss World contestants also had the opportunity to interact and learn about some of the world's most endangered species. Legend Golf & Safari Resort not only boasts spectacular views of the Waterberg Mountains, but is also home to the big five, including the magnificent white lions. The Legend Wildlife and Culture centre opened a new world to the girls, many of whom have never seen a lion, let alone a Meerkat called Bob! He excited allot of "oohs and ahs" from the girls who queued to be photographed with the tiny creature. The 6-week old lion cub Uno caused a bit of drama as the girls were almost climbing over each other for a chance to pet the cute cub.

The girls also took part in the White Lion Programme where they were able to interact with White Lions, cheetahs, wild dog and hyena. Miss Latvia Ieva Lase would later remark that it was an amazing experience and that she couldn't believe that she touched a Cheetah. It was however quite clear that some of the contestants were wary of the Cheetah, cautiously petting the tame cats.

I have absolutely no doubt that each girl will forever remember their experience in the bush and I will bet my tiara that some of them will return to our shores again. In less than two weeks one of them will be crowned as Miss World at Gallagher Estate in Midrand - I'll be sure to keep you in the know of what is happening behind the scenes in the run up to the final.
