Sasha-Lee and Jason shares Idol-throne

It is official – Sasha Lee Davids and Jason Hartman are the joint winners of Idols 2009.

The announcement was made by M-Net CEO Patricia Scholtemeyer at a press conference in Johannesburg following a recount of Sunday’s votes after the pay-channel admitted to some technical glitches in the counting-process.

“Even though Sasha Lee received 1.1 million and Jason 1.3 million votes, we felt that the public loves them both,” Scholtemeyer said.

The whole country was left on tenterhooks since the results were called into question and several listeners of Jacaranda 94.2 complained that they were not able to vote during Sunday’s finale.

According to Scholtemeyer there had been an undercount of valid SMS votes and that technical teams are continuing to work on improving the integrity of the mechanism for shows like Idols.

Jason will receive an equal share of the prizes, including the recording contract.

Patricia Lewis in good Spirits

Songbird Patricia Lewis was also on the receiving end of some good news today. Her tumour has been diagnosed as non-cancerous.

“She does however still have to undergo complicated surgery as soon as possible to have the large tumour removed as its rapid growth is impacting on her vocal chords and air passages, said Keith Lister from Sony Music.

Lewis’ husband, Mark Whitfield told Jacaranda 94.2 that she is relieved at the news and thanked everyone for all the well-wishes and support she received.
