CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Chelsea has joined Arsenal in the last 16 of the Champions League as group winners, but Manchester United must wait.

The Blues' 1-0 win at Porto ensured top spot.
Sir Alex Ferguson's team, who were already through to the knockout phase, went down 1-0 at Old Trafford against Besiktas (pron: BESH-IK-TASS).

They now must get a result in Germany against Wolfsburg to win Group B.

REVIEW OF ACTION:

GROUP A

Bordeaux 2 - 0 Juventus

Bordeaux secured their place at the top of the group with a 2-0 home win over Italian side Juventus. The Serie A side will play Bayern Munich at home in their final group game and the German side will need to win after moving on to seven points after a 1-0 victory over Maccabi Haifa.

GROUP B

Man Utd 0 - 1 Besiktas

Manchester United has qualified for the knockout stages but, after being beaten 1-0 by Besiktas, they now need a point at Wolfsburg to make sure of top spot in Group B.
But Wolfsburg have their own agenda to work to after being beaten 2-1 at CSKA Mosow, leaving both the teams level on seven points.

CSKA travel to Besiktas in the final group game with the Turkish side needing a comprenhensive win over them to have a chance of overtaking the Russian side and stealing a Europa League place.

GROUP C

AC Milan 1 - 1 Marseille

Real Madrid, AC Milan and Marseille can each still qualify for the next round going into the final round of group games.

Real beat the group's bottom club FC Zurich 1-0 to go top on 10 points.

Cristiano Ronaldo made his first appearance in eight weeks following an ankle injury as a 70th minute substitute.

But AC Milan is on eight points and Marseille on seven after both fought out a 1-1 draw at the San Siro.

GROUP D

Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka scored as his side beat Porto 1-0 to confirm top spot in Group D while their beaten opponents will have to content themselves with the runners-up place.

Both knew they were going through to the knockout phase ahead of the game at Estadio do Dragao and the only thing to be resolved in Group D is who goes into the Europa League.

Apoel Nicosia 1 - 1 Atletico Madrid
CSKA Moscow 2 - 1 Wolfsburg

PSL:

Premier League strugglers Hull City stunned Everton 3-2 to pull away from the relegation zone as Fulham moved into the top 10 with an impressive 3-0 win over Blackburn Rovers.

The pressure is continuing in the buildup to a crucial weekend in the future of Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez.

Having crashed out of the Champions League, the Reds are 7th in the Premier League going into their derby with Everton.

Hull held off an Everton fightback to earn a 3- 2 win which moves them level with their struggling opponents.
Fulham recovered from a dire early spell to beat Blackburn 3-0.

RUGBY

If you ply your trade in Ireland seems you can be picked for Boks. CJ Van de Linde, BJ Botha and noe Jean de Villiers, who plays his rugby for Munster s, has been included in the team today to replace the injured Adrian Jacobs.

Jacobs is already on his way home.

De Villiers is the sixth player that has joined the squad since the beginning of the tour.

South Africa's other "Irish" Boks, CJ van der Linde (Leinster) en BJ Botha (Ulster), count as some of these players.

The Blue Bull centre, Wynand Olivier will take his place in the starting line up today, in Jacobs' place, for Saturday's test against Ireland.

De Villiers will find himself on the bench in the test against the Irish. Danie Rossouw appears set to replace Ryan Kankowski at eighthman.

TENNIS

Rafael Nadal became the first player to be knocked out of the ATP World Tour Finals. Five months after limping out of Wimbledon due to aching knees, slumped to a 6-1 7-6 defeat by Russia's Nikolay Davydenko.

Swede Robin Soderling became the first qualifier for the semifinals when he thrashed world number three Novak Djokovic 7-6 6-1 for his second major shock of the tournament.

Andy Murray needs a win today to guarantee his place in the last four as he faces Fernando Verdasco.
A loss wouldn't necessarily end the hopes of the British number one, though it would depend on Roger Federer losing to Juan Martin Del Potro.

Rafael Nadal was knocked out of the tournament last night, losing to Nikolay Davydenko.
