RAMAPHOSA Q&A IN NCOP - Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa says the challenges at our state-owned enterprises are being addressed, and that they have implemented turnaround strategies at the Post Office, South African Airways and Eskom.

Ramaphosa is answering questions in the National Council of Provinces. He says the turnaround strategies are bearing fruit, and added that our electricity woes would be a thing of the past within the next two years...

Ramaphosa was also asked about the fake qualifications of people working for these state owned enterprises.

Rail agency Prasa recently fired their head of engineering, Daniel Mtimkulu, after it transpired that he faked his qualifications.

Ramaphosa says we shouldn't be a country of imposters...

SPRINGBOKS CASE STANDS DOWN IN COURT - The Agency for New Agenda has welcomed the ruling by the High Court in Pretoria to force dialogue on transformation in sport.

The organisation had approached the court seeking an interdict to bar the Springboks from going to the World Cup in England, but has decided to withdraw the application.

The president of the party, Tshidiso Mokhoanatse, says their plan was never to hamper the team but to transfer the responsibility of transformation...

MOODY'S DOES NOT FORESEE SA RECESSION - Credit rating agency Moody's says it expects South Africa to avoid sliding into a recession this year, despite signs that the economy is struggling after contracting in the second quarter.

The agency says that electricity shortages, low commodity prices, a drought and weaker than expected global growth will constrain South Africa's economy over the next 18 months.

This is, however, already reflected in the government's stable outlook rating.
