PUBLIC PROTECTOR REACTS TO ANC COMMENTS - Public Protector Thuli Madonsela says she is being attacked by the ANC, following her decision to join the EFF in their Constitutional Court bid to get President Jacob Zuma to pay back the money for upgrades done at his Nkandla homestead. 

Yesterday, the Chief Whip of the ANC said in a statement that the decision by the Public Protector to align herself with a political party is ill advised, and has the potential to dent her reputation as an impartial institution. 

Madonsela's spokesperson, Kgalalelo Masibi, says the Public Protector only joined the case to clarify the powers of her office, and this should not be turned into a political playball...

DA IN COURT OVER SABC COO - Judge Dennis Davis voiced his reservations about letting the court case against SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng proceed, pending the disciplinary process against Motsoeneng. 

Judge Davis said there was a risk that by the time he had ruled on whether it was indeed irrational to permanently appoint Motsoeneng, the SABC may already have decided to remove him from his post. 

The DA took the matter to the Western Cape High Court, saying that the whole process of appointing Motsoeneng was irrational, and that the SABC failed to interview any other applicants for the position.

COAL STRIKE - Eskom has welcomed the end of the strike in the coal sector, after mining companies and unions reached an agreement on wage increases today. 

Around 30,000 coal miners from mineworkers union NUM went on strike last week Sunday, demanding a wage increase of R1000 for the lowest paid workers. 

The agreement reached today will see workers get a R750 salary increase.

MH17 - The Malaysian government said they will push for the prosecution of the "trigger-happy criminals" who downed flight MH17, after a Dutch-led investigation said it was shot down by a missile fired from eastern Ukraine. 

The flight was shot down last year, killing all 298 passengers on board. 

The head of the Safety Board, Tjibbe Joustra, earlier today said that the Russians are still questioning the origin of the missile, which they found to be manufactured in Russia...

WATER RESTRICTIONS - The water restrictions that were implemented in Pretoria since last week Friday has been lifted. 

The City of Tshwane's Selby Bokaba, however, still urged residents to use water sparingly...
