‘Do not rubbish Mandela’s legacy’, says Sanco
Updated | By ANA
History would judge harshly those who trampled upon former president Nelson Mandela’s legacy, the SA National Civic Organisation (SANCO) said on Monday.
The organisation said it was time for the beleaguered ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC), to unite again.
“Now more than ever before, it is necessary for his [Nelson Mandela] party, the African National Congress to reclaim its high moral ground in order to win back its electoral support, advance aggressively redress of apartheid legacy of deprivation and underdevelopment,” said spokesman Jabu Mahlangu.
Monday marked three years since the death of the former statesman. He was 90 when he died.
Mahlangu said Mandela was the greatest statesman of the 20th century.
“He was larger than life and epitomised values that will inspire and outlive generations to come. A lot still need to be done to inculcate the values and invaluable lessons that he taught humanity,” he said.
“He lives forever in the monument of the hearts of millions of people across the globe. He will forever be remembered as the selfless founding father of our great nation, a fearless freedom fighter, a courageous unifier, a champion of the poor, as well as the downtrodden masses and a revolutionary intellectual.”
