Koedoespoort Substation damage 'very serious' - Brink
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink says the repair work at the Koedoespoort Substation, north of Pretoria will take longer than expected.
He says the damage is very serious and it may take several more days to fix.
A transformer inside the substation exploded on Friday, causing a massive fire and leaving hundreds of residents without power.
"The fire has not been extinguished completely, the transformers that exploded contains oil that burn at very high temperatures. It has to be dampened over a period of time. Electricity has been restored to most areas by back feeding.
"Tshwane emergency services are doing their best to extinguish the fire as soon as possible," said Brink in his update on Saturday morning.
Brink said that residents may still experience power outages due to the repairs and configuration of the electricity network.
He added areas where power was restored through the night on Friday could possibly experience further power cuts over the next couple of days.
Some of the affected suburbs include Waverley, Moregloed, Bergtuin, Koedoespoort Industrial, Weavindpark, Lindopark, Eastlynn, Jan Niemand Park, Silverton industrial, Kilnerpark and Queenswood.
Affected secondary substations include Pumulani Primary 132KV Substation, Montana Secondary 11KV Substation, Haartebeesfontein Secondary Substation, Montana, Part of Doornpoort and Breedt Secondary Substation 11KV Substation.
