NPA: Marikana investigations ongoing

The National Prosecuting Authority says they are still working on gathering evidence regarding top police officials that could be charged regarding the August 2012 Marikana massacre.
According to the NPA's Luvuyo Mfaku a team of prosecutors, together with investigators of the Independent Police investigative Directorate is still working on the matter.
This comes after the news at the weekend, that two top cops will be charged as recommended by the Farlam Commission of Inquiry into the shooting on the koppie in August 2012 which saw 34 mine workers killed.
The presidency released a statement confirming that a number of senior police officers could appear in court soon in with the massacre.

Meanwhile the Marikana Support Campaign's Rehad Desai has welcomed the decision to prosecute members of the police.
"This is an important advancement and is to be welcomed. Four-and-a-half years after the massacre, it is an admission of state culpability for the murder, shooting and wrongful arrests of striking mineworkers in August 2012," he said.
The presidency's Bongani Ngqulunga confirmed that several police members are to appear in court soon for their actions during the 2012 Marikana massacre.
He also added that the families of victims should be receiving compensation soon.
