So says the South African Communist Party.
Its comments comes after the City of Cape Town Council approved the renaming proposal on Wednesday during a chaotic sitting disrupted by opposition councillors
Barry James Mitchell says that as the Western Cape SACP they are astounded, but not surprised.
The proposal for the name change was put forward by 27 signatories including Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu and DA leader Helen Zille.
