SA NOT FACING CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS: Despite concerns of tension between the judicial and executive arms of the state, South Africa was not in a constitutional crisis, Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng said on Thursday evening. "Our democracy is demonstrably healthy, hence these concerns. We will make it healthier as we embark on the process alluded to (by President Jacob Zuma) in the form of a conference, seminar or whatever format it may take," Mogoeng addressed reporters as he emerged from a meeting with Zuma at the Union Buildings in Pretoria. He said the two critical arms of the state should accept criticism.


 

 


PRESIDENT ZUMA MEETS WITH JUDICIARY: President Jacob Zuma has described yesterday's discussions as frank, cordial and robust. The president chaired the meeting that was requested by chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng to discuss what he labelled as recent attacks on the judiciary.



PRIVATE JET DEBACLE TO BE CLARIFIED: Defence and Military Veterans Minister, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, is expected to brief the media at the Waterkloof Air Force Base this morning, to address issues around the Deputy President's official trip to Japan on a privately owned jet. The story is making headline news, after it emerged that Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa flew on a privately owned jet, leased by government from a company belonging to the wealthy Gupta family, and of which Duduzane Zuma is also a co-owner. 



MEMORIAL TO BE HELD FOR BURN VICTIMS: A memorial service will be held in Leeudoringstad this morning for the three learners who died in this week's fire at the North West Secondary school for the Deaf. Education MEC Wendy Matsemela says it will precede funeral services at the learners' respective homes.



SIPHO HOTSTIX MABUSE IN COURT: Legendary musician Sipho 'Hotstix' Mabuse is expected back in the Protea Magistrates' Court this morning, for allegedly taking the law into his own hands after catching to people stealing from him. He's been charged with assaulting the two with a hammer and a gun for hours - after he reportedly caught them stealing a battery from him. He handed himself over to police at the beginning of the month and has denied the charges.



WORST NEWS OF THE DAY: A story shocking Europe is the decomposed bodies of up to 50 immigrants that were found left in an abandoned truck on a highway in Austria, near the border with Slovaki and Hungary. That while, European leaders were meeting yesterday, to discuss the biggest immigrant crisis since the second World War. Meanwhile in Libya the bodies of 52 dead migrants were found - submerged in water -- in the hold of a boat off Libya. 


BEST NEWS OF THE DAY: If you want to say thank you for the music and have the money, money, money - then this is for you. The grand piano that featured on many of ABBA's biggest hits is going up for auction in London. Sotheby's is offering the instrument, owned by the Stockholm recording studio where the Swedish pop group often recorded. For about 2.5 million rand, you too can feel like the Dancing Queen.
