Captain Frederick van Wyk told SAfm the police had not been able to identify the bodies.

"We are still investigating. There are no new developments. We are urging the community to get involved and help us bring the perpetrators to book.

"We have not been able to identify any of them."

Van Wyk said the police had followed all the leads and information it had gathered so far, but "it all has come to a dead end".

"This is the first case of such a nature," he said.

Police suspected that the six men, aged between 18 and 30, had been stoned to death.

Their bodies were discovered lying face down with their hands tied behind their backs by passers-by in Joostenberg Vlakte around 10am on Tuesday.

They then alerted the police. Six murder cases were opened.
