Carstens' trial postponed

The drunk driving trial of musician Arno Carstens was postponed in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Carstens, dressed in a smart blue and grey suit with sunglasses tucked into his shirt, was to have appeared before Magistrate Nadia Banwari.

She was ill and a stand-in magistrate postponed his trial provisionally until August 5.

On this day, Banwari was expected to agree to another postponement date.

The former Springbok Nude Girls frontman seemed frustrated that closing arguments were not to be heard on Thursday.

Carstens has pleaded not guilty to a charge of drunk driving, alternatively driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.20 percent.

The 0.20 percent level came from the State's analysis. The legal limit is 0.05 percent.

He was arrested in central Cape Town in December 2010 when a traffic officer noticed his black Mercedes-Benz swerving.
