GLENCORE COAL - Mineral Resources Minister Ngoako Ramathlodi has conditionally lifted the suspension of Glencore Optimum Coal Mine. 


The Minister initially told Glencore to shut the 10 million tonne-a-year coal mine because it failed to follow proper legal procedure during planned job cuts. 


However, that was before Ramathlodi chaired this week's urgent meeting to discuss job losses in the mining sector. Ramatlhodi's Special Advisor Mahlodi Muofhe says the minister has engaged with the company...


 


PICKET AGAINST CORRUPTION - A consortium of organisations and individuals are picketing in Cape Town and Johannesburg from 1.00pm against corruption. 


At Parliament, they're calling on South Africans to safe guard the office of the Public Protector, while in Johannesburg there'll be a picket at the Constitutional Court this afternoon, for a further call to also protect the constitution. 


Activist Zwelinzima Vavi says these pickets come after Parliament's Ad Hoc Committee decided not to call Thuli Madonsela about the findings of her report into the controversial security upgrades at President Jacob Zuma's private homestead in Nkandla...


 


CURBURNE VAN WYK - The Palm Ridge Magistrates Court has sentenced Daniël Mpoku to life behind bars for last year's kidnapping and murder of Reiger Park toddler Curburne van Wyk. 


In handing down sentence, Judge George Maluleke told Mpoku that the manner in which he murdered the toddler and dumped his body, are signs of a satanic ritual. 


Van Wyk's parents were in the gallery for the last chapter of this tragic murder.
