Municipal by-election results in

The African National Congress won 26 of 31 municipal wards in by-elections this week, according to results on the Electoral Commission of SA's (IEC) website.

The Democratic Alliance won in four wards and the Inkatha Freedom Party in one.

 


The by-elections took place in the Eastern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, and the Western Cape on Wednesday.

 


The 81 candidates represented 12 parties, while two candidates were independent. Five wards were uncontested.

 


In Inkwanca (Molteno) in the Eastern Cape, the ANC took three wards and the DA took one.

 


In the Free State in Maluti A Phofung (Qwa-Qwa) the ANC won the by-election in that ward.

 


The ANC won all four by-elections in wards in Mooi Mpofana (Mooiriver) KwaZulu-Natal.

 


Also in KwaZulu-Natal, the IFP won the by-election in a ward in Ulundi.

 


The ANC was victorious in all 13 by-elections in wards in Mogalakwena (Potgietersrus), Limpopo.

 


In Mpumalanga three by-elections were held and the ANC won in all three, namely in Mkhondo (Piet Retief), Govan Mbeki (Highveld Ridge), and Umjindi (Barberton).


There was one by-election in the Northern Cape in Kai !Garib (Keimoes) which the ANC won.


The DA won in three of the four by-elections in the Western Cape.


The DA won in Theewaterskloof (Caledon) and two wards contested in Overstrand (Greater Hermanus).


The ANC won the third ward contested in Overstrand (Greater Hermanus).
