Opposition parties are more convinced than ever, that president Jacob Zuma has to pay back SOME of the Nkandla money. The parliamentary ad hoc committee yesterday visited parts of the president’s private homestead. The president’s residence has been the source of controversial debates which include the grossly exorbitant fees that were charged for the home and the security upgrades. The Freedom Front Plus' chief whip, Corné Mulder expresses his dismay at the amount of money that has been spent thus far on Nkandla.

The DA’s Chief whip, John Steenhuizen is also convinced that President Jacob Zuma should be paying back a portion of the money that was spent on his Nkandla homestead. The presence of some DA members who were not part of the ad hoc committee has also come under fire. The DA was criticised for deterring the visit into something that it was not. However, Steenhuizen responded to the claims made by the ANC.

Raymond Louw, a representative of the South African National Editor’s Forum agrees with the ANC saying that the DA is interfering and is hijacking the media contingency that was present in Nkandla.

THE REPO RATE is due to be announced on Thursday afternoon by the Reserve Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee. Economists are still conflicted on whether or not the repo rate will remain unchanged or will increase. Stats SA announced the Consumer Price Inflation to 4.7% for the month of June, which is a 0.1% increase from May’s 4.6%.  The increase was lower than the market expectation.

Efficient Economist, Francois Stoffberg says these are good news for this afternoon’s announcement
