Sergeant, Warrant arrested for prisoner escape

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala says the suspect who escaped was arrested after community members caught him stealing cell phones.

 

“The community caught the suspect and called police. The suspect was arrested, registered and locked into the cells. The suspect was found in possession of two stolen cell phones,” he says.

 

 

Mohlala says they were then informed that the suspect had escaped.

 

“Later on it was discovered that this suspect escaped from custody. The Provincial Police Commissioner immediately went to the station to ensure those responsible for helping the suspect escape were arrested,” he says.

 

Mohlala says it is unlikely that the suspect can escape from the cells without aid…
