Shocked EFF wants to go to court over overalls
MPL Tshabalala broke no law by wearing red overalls, what the party called "workers' attire", the EFF's Free State chairperson Kgotso Morapela said on Friday.
“The EFF’s attire was never an issue in the Free State legislature. In fact, we were shocked when it was raised. However, it came to our understanding that it was just used to cause confusion and chaos in the sitting by the ANC.
“We suspected that their demi-god Ace Magashule [Free State premier] issued an instruction to degenerate the house deliberately into chaos to avoid answering difficult questions from members of the opposition, in particular the EFF,” Morapela said.
“This seems to be the trend. When members of the executive council have to account, they are not available or they postpone the sittings.
‘Deflect from issues’
“Yesterday, when we were looking forward to getting answers from Magashule, as usual they didn’t disappoint.
"Regalia was never an issue. When the issue was raised in other provinces, the Free State was very quiet. Now that the EFF is raising issues that have to do with corruption in the premier's office and the health department, they start confusion to draw attention away from these issues.”
Morapela congratulated Tshabalala for standing his ground when legislature Speaker Mamiki Qabathe ruled that he should leave the house because of his “inappropriate attire”. Tshabalala was eventually marched out.
“The EFF will use every platform democratically created to expose corrupt administration of the Free State ANC led by Magashule,” he said.
