Major Thulani Zwane said members of the visible policing unit arrested the men, aged 28 and 30, at around 3.50am in the Westmead area when two petrol attendants flagged them down next to a petrol filling station.

“The petrol attendants pointed at two suspects who were running towards nearby bushes. Police gave chase and the two suspects were arrested and one of them was found in possession of a toy gun,” Zwane said.

“It is alleged that at about 3.40am the suspects entered a filling station along Alexander road and posed as customers. One of them bought cigarettes and the other one pulled out a firearm and demanded cash from the cashier. The suspects fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.”

Zwane said the men were taken to Pinetown police station and charged with business robbery. They are expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court soon. -ANA
