Captain Paul Ramaloko said police were called to a scene of murder at Nkaneng informal settlement on Monday afternoon.

“It is understood that a group of unknown people stoned the two men, in their 30’s, after they were accused of stabbing a 32-year-old man to death, at a local tavern on Sunday.”

Ramloko said the two apparently had an argument with the man, who was stabbed, before they allegedly attacked him. He was stabbed with a knife in the neck.

He said the man was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

The acting provincial commissioner of the North West, Major General Jacob Tsumane condemned the incident. “I want to urge the community of Marikana not to take the law into their own hands.”

Tsumane appealed to the community to work with police instead of committing mob killing.

No one had been arrested, Ramloko said. -ANA
