Petition against Fish Farming in Port Elizabeth
Updated | By Michael Savage

Factory fish farming, is it really a thing?
To keep up with feeding the world, communties are having to find ways to increase the amount of food and agriculture in order to keep up with the population expansion of the globe.
The biggest source of food all over the world is the sea, but because of over-fishing, fish populations are decimated in many areas, South Africa's waters are no exception.
So a company has devised a radical new plan to implement live cages and suspend them offshore in the ocean in order to breed fish. This new method though doesn't come without problems for the local ecosystem, which is where the problem comes in.
in short – they want to build a “live” net fish farm in Algoa Bay. This threatens so much: the environment, the coral reef, tourism, water sports, leisure activity, sea fisheries, the economy of the city, shipping routes, not to mention property prices, etc.
this is not just a PE issue – it’s a National issue because what we’re talking about here is the environment. The more vocal we can become – the more signatures on this petition – the more we can hopefully get government to reverse this decision.
