Reiger park case postponed
The man made his first appearance behind closed doors following a court order that it be held in-camera, senior prosecutor Henk Strydom said.
The media were not allowed inside and the court ordered that no photographs be taken of the accused, and that he may not be identified.
His name would not even be on the court roll.
He said this was because certain witnesses still had to identify the accused in an identity parade.
Strydom said the man faced charges of murder, and possibly kidnapping and defeating the ends of justice.
The possibility of sexual assault was also being investigated.
Strydom said the possible defeating the ends of justice charge related to the body being set alight to destroy evidence.
The State would oppose bail.
The man was remanded in custody for seven days.
Strydom said he had not requested an attorney and would be representing himself in court at the next appearance.
The man was arrested in Germiston on Wednesday by metro police officers. Cuburne's body was discovered on Saturday by a passer-by at a mine dump in Reiger Park.
Police said he died as a result of multiple head injuries and burn wounds. He disappeared on August 6 while he was playing outside with his siblings.
