If you have a passion for fashion, the Pretoria SunGardens Hospice fundraiser is the place to be this Woman's Day. Top designers such as Jenny Button, Gert van der Merwe, Thomas Thompson, Fred Eboka, Christa B, Catherine`s Collection and Lisa Designs will be putting up a show, in aid of Sungardens Hospice. Impressionant Events is helping organise the event called "Fashion 4 Compassion" at the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice Menlyn on 9 August. In fact, there are two shows: a high tea at 11:00 and a cocktail show at 15:00 at R450 a ticket. 

Pretoria Sungardens Hospice was established in 1985, and Mamelodi Hospice in 1993. These hospices were established out of a need that existed in the community to take care of terminally ill patients. This particular Hospice and the one satellite Hospice serve the greater Tshwane Metropolitan area. The main administrative and in-patient unit is situated in Pretoria (corner of Gen. Louis Botha and Lynnwood Road). They offer a programme of specialised home-based care to patients and their families who must cope with terminal illness such as Cancer, HIV/AIDS, final stages of emphysema and Motor Neuron Disease. Although they have a 7-bed in-patient unit on the premises, which provides short-term medical care, including pain and symptom control, the main thrust of our work is for professionally trained nurses to visit the patients and their families in their own homes to provide physical care, practical help and emotional support (currently 400 patients).

The Hospice team is also involved in day-care programmes, bereavement counseling and training.
