Background:

25-year old Dan Lombard lives, eats and sleeps rugby. He's not a player, but a supporter. Dan last year finished his honours in Journalism at the University of Pretoria, thanks to a bursary from the Department of Labour. He studied journalism with only one passion: to be a top rugby journalist and communications officer. His family and friends help him out with transport when they can to enable him to watch games and he works as a freelancer for BLOU - the Bulls eMag. What makes Dan's passion so remarkable is that he loves the game, despite what it has taken from him ... When Dan was 18-years old and in matric, her broke his neck in a rugby practice. He's been a quadriplegic since ...

Greetings Good Morning Angels team,

I'm a C4/5 quadriplegic living in Pretoria. I injured myself on the rugby pitch during a practice where I broke my neck. I was 18 and in Grade 12 (Pretoria Boys) at the time.

I'm now 25 and finished my Honours in Journalism at the University of Pretoria in 2014 thanks to a bursary from the Department of Labour. I'm now trying to make a name for myself in sports journalism covering mainly rugby. I freelance for BLOU (Bulls eMag, Game On eMag, Varsity Cup: Tuks media, SuperSport: Vodacom Cup).

Rugby took so much away from me but in some indescribable way it has made me more passionate about the game. I would like to go into communications at one of the big unions one day.

I don't have any form of transportation so I have to constantly juggle my acceptance of work and invites based on the availability of what I can arrange through friends. I want to make a success out of my life.

I come from my a big family and my disability is a huge expense for my Dad. I would like to make his life a bit easier and try get a suitable vehicle with a ramp/lift through fundraising or a donation. We are tired of being turned away and asking for handouts, but I thought I would try one last time.

If the Good Morning Angels team could assist in any way possible we would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you so much for reading my email.

Kind regards
Dan Lombard

A wheelchair friendly vehicle for Dan for 6 months!

We heard the story of the very inspirational Dan Lombard this morning. He has a burning passion for rugby and sports and who will be attending the Springboks vs All Blacks game on the 25th of July. During GMA he mentioned that one of his biggest problems is getting around because he does not have a suitable vehicle, that accommodates his wheelchair. If he had such a vehicle, he would be able to get to matches and rugby functions and he would be able to work more. We have some good news for Dan’s dad, Jacques Lombard. Our friend Hartogh Streicher from Action Ford in Krugersdorp has jumped on board with an amazing offer!

Sponsoring:

Hartogh and the Action Ford team will sponsor Dan with a Ford Transit Connect van for 6 months. The vehicle will be fitted with a ramp for Dan's wheel chair. The vehicle will also be insured by Action Ford Krugersdorp! This will give Dan six months to get as much cash together as he can, because then he will be able to buy the vehicle and ramp for below cost price!

Please help Dan to buy his van!

After having received the R250 000 donation, Jacques and his wife went to see Hartogh at Action Ford in Krugersdorp to complete the buying of Dan’s custom fitted van so he could become more independent again.
