For those who are not aware of this, each and every member of The Complimentary Breakfast team is a coffee addict. Presenting the team with a list of places where the best of the best fixes from around the world could be found left a hole that only a good cup of coffee could fill… Show producer Doepie went on a quest to fill the gap phoned some of the top baristas, both locally and abroad, to find “The Complimentary Breakfast Holy Grail of Coffee.”

This is the secret:

- Use fresh beans, preferably Ethiopian.

- Make sure the beans are ground right before you use them.

- When brewing coffee at home, use a plunger.

- For maximum flavour, use a coarser grind on your beans.

- Add ground coffee to plunger.

- Add warm but not boiling water to your coffee, around 82-85 degrees Celsius.

- Leave your coffee to brew for 4 minutes.

- Slowly push your plunger down to the bottom.

- Use a spoon to scoop off the crema at the top of the coffee.

- Stir slowly

- Pour and enjoy.

According to The Complimentary Breakfast listeners, their idea of a perfect cup of coffee is:

Dominique Hurter “Any cup of Douwe Egberts Kenya coffee – it’s perfect!”

Jackobus Gouws “Any cup of Coffee as long as my beauty full wife makes it for me.”

Nadine Myburgh “BP Express Tom Jones coffee.”

Mari JvVuuren Breytenbach “Melk koffie bly die lekkerste!”
