Top cop Lamoer, others face 109 charges

Western Cape Police Commissioner Arnold Lamoer and five others appeared in the Goodwood Magistrates Court on Friday on charges of corruption.

The six face 109 counts, including corruption, fraud, money laundering and defeating the ends of justice.


Included in the six were Lamoer, three senior cops, businessman Mohamed Salim Dawjee and his son Zameer, EWN tweeted.


Bail was set at R5 000 for Lamoer and his co-accused.


Members of the Western Cape police made brief appearances in the public gallery, including Major General Jeremy Vearey, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi, and alleged whistleblower, Goodwood Commander Hansia Hansraj.


Journalists waited patiently outside the Goodwood police station, which is next to the Goodwood courthouse, to catch a glimpse of the accused before their court appearance.


The National Prosecuting Authoritys Billy Downer is set to prosecute.
