"Constable Stanley Mokonyane of public order policing in Modimolle, who was deployed to assist in maintaining peace and stability at Malamulele, had just finished a rendezvous with two sex workers next to a well-known hotel in Thohoyandou when two men allegedly attacked him," Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.

"The suspects stabbed him twice on the chest, took his cellphone and wallet before fleeing the scene on foot."

The incident happened last Thursday.

The two, aged 21 and 25, were arrested on Saturday and found in possession of Mokonyane's cellphone, Mulaudzi said.

They are expected to appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of murder and robbery.
