Updated | By Olivia Phalaetsile
Captain Bernadine Steyn said Nathan Meintjies, 28, received two life sentences on two counts of murder and five years for theft.
On January 22 this year Meintjies picked up Jan Lowrens, 35, and off-duty police Warrant Officer Glenwill Kelly, 43, in Donkin Street, Beaufort West.
"He was requested by the deceased to take them home. The accused drove to Vaal Koppies Road, where he took the Warrant Officer Kelly's official 9mm firearm. He shot Lowrens once in his head and Kelly five times in his head."
Their bodies were found the following day by a member of the public next to the gravel road.
Meintjies was arrested on January 23 at his house in Beaufort West.
He was found guilty by the court on November 25 on two counts of murder and one of theft.
