The position became vacant when former incumbent Lesetja Kganyago was appointed governor last year, spokesman Mac Maharaj said in a statement.

Naidoo would assume his duties on April 1. He is currently an adviser to Kganyago and a member of the bank's monetary policy committee.

Naidoo served as acting head of the secretariat for the national planning commission.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree, a postgraduate Diploma in Public Management from Wits University, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Birmingham in the UK.
