BACKGROUND: Tamzyne, 30, and Andries Oosthuizen from Roodepoort’s love story begins in grade eight at Hoërskool Monument. At that young age, Andries told his mom that he would one day marry Tamzyne and 12 years later, he did. Over the past four years, they’ve built their life as a family, with the addition of their daughter, Tamia, who is now three years old.

“Andries and Tamia are inseparable - she calls him her 'liefie',” says Tamzyne. Besides the two girls who stole his heart, all who know Andries will tell you about his other love and talent: rugby. Andries was a super-fast wing and played Craven Week in High School, Varsity Cup for UJ, under 21’s for the Lions, and for the Blitzbokke. A few years ago, Andries started a borehole drilling company with a friend. He worked hard to provide for his young family.

Until November 2020, this would have been their story - however, in a few short months since then, their lives have changed dramatically. Andries is currently in a step-down facility after falling ill with a respiratory infection in December that has left him in a comatose state, unable to speak or recognise his own wife or daughter. It is unclear why his health deteriorated so drastically in such a short time. For Tamzyne, his family, and friends, there are more questions than answers.

Tamia has no understanding of why her 'liefie' isn’t coming home to dance and play with her. Andries’ medical aid has covered all this treatment and his stay in the step-down facility. However, he is to be discharged in June if there is no improvement in his condition and then Tamzyne will be on her own.

ORIGINAL REQUEST:

Good Morning Angels,

I hope you are all doing well.

I am pleading for your assistance on behalf of a friend of mine, whose husband has been in hospital since December 2020, in a comatose state, unable to speak or recognise his own wife or daughter.

It started with pneumonia and resulted in him having to be on a ventilator. There were some complications which meant he had to be put in an induced coma since December. Since then it has been a rollercoaster of scans, tests and prayer.

They eventually had to insert a trachea tube to ventilate, but his lungs have fallen flat twice since then. The Doctors said that if Andries does make it home he will be like a child with Cerebral Palsy who would need care 24/7.

Although he's eyes are open, it is not the Andries we know and love behind them. Andries and Tamzyne were High School sweethearts (him being an amazing Afrikaans rugby player and her being a beautiful English girl) meeting in boarding school at Hoërskool Monument. They eventually got married in July 2017 and had a BEAUTIFUL daughter named Tamia in 2018.

Andries truly is an amazing man, husband, father and friend!

Last week Andries was moved to the Midstream rehab facility, and although the Medical Aid has been amazing up till now, the rehab is only authorised weekly, and soon Andries will have to be moved from there to full care which will be completely on Tamzyne's account.

What I am pleading for, should Good Morning Angels be able to assist, is any financial assistance which can be used for Andries' care.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Warmest Regards,

Christine Delport
