Western Cape storm wreaks havoc

The City of Cape Town's Disaster Risk Management Centre says roofs have been blown off in Delft, Mfuleni and the Strand area.

Two people were injured when their roof was blown off in Lavender Hill.

Trees were also uprooted in Durbanville, Delft, Platterkloof and Plumstead areas.

It's also understood that the extreme weather has also cut power to parts of Athlone, Goodwood, Boston and Parow Valley.

Disaster Risk management spokesperson Charlotte Powell says they have received numerous report of roofs damaged or blown away.

"Trees were uprooted, some of which led to power outages," says Powell.

Powell says emergency sheltering was activated in several areas.

"The disaster management centre will be monitoring high risk areas and vulnerable communities to coordinate emergency response."
