On Monday, ANC provincial secretary Jacob Khawe met with Premier David Makhura and members whose names have been mentioned in the procurement of personal protective gear by the Gauteng Department of Health.

This comes after a report in the Sunday Independent linked  Gauteng Health MEC Bandile Masuku and his wife Loyiso Lugayeni-Masuku to a R124 million tender for protective gear.

The report also links spokesperson in the Presidency, Khusela Diko and her husband Thandisizwe Diko.

Thandisizwe Diko reportedly scored the multi million rand contract to supply the equipment to the department due to influence by the couples’ close ties.

Diko has been granted special leave while the investigation continues.

Gauteng ANC spokesperson Bones Modise says the special PEC meeting will be held to decide the fate of those involved.

"The provincial secretary had engaged with comrades named in the procurement of personal protective equipment and had further presented the report to the provincial office bearers.

"The provincial office bearers have resolved that the provincial government should present a detailed account of events to a special PEC meeting on Wednesday," says Modise.

"The report will look holistically on what has happened in terms of the Covid-19 procurement processes and not only those who have been mentioned in the papers, but all those who have benefitted.”
