Covid-19 in prisons top 650, says Correctional Services

The number of prisoners with Covid-19 increased by 36 from to 455 on Tuesday.
According to the latest release by the Department of Correctional Services, there now are 199 officials with the virus.
The department's spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo says the total number of confirmed cases has increased to 654.
"This is one of the areas receiving attention from the provincial Department of Health as Chris Hani District has been classified as one of the epicentres in the Eastern Cape," says Nxumalo.
He adds the recovery cases are currently standing at 123.
The total breakdown of Covid-19 cases at DCS is as follows:
Eastern Cape - 460
Officials - 61
Inmates - 399
Recoveries - 71
Death cases - 2
Western Cape – 170

The total number of infections stood at 605 on Monday, including 186 officials. The department's Singabakho Nxumalo says 118 people have recovered from the virus. "The Western Cape and Eastern Cape regions are receiving heightened surveillance due to a high number of cases.
