The country’s economic hub is also the epicentre of the outbreak with 782 cases of Covid-19.

Three people have died in Gauteng since the start of the outbreak.

Makhura and several MEC’s briefed the media on the province’s efforts to contain the spread of the virus in Johannesburg on Friday.

"I want to call on the people of our province, to continue to help us because we are very very far from flattening the curve,” the premier warned.

"We want to join the Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize in restating that we should not think that we are over it yet. We should prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

"In everything that we do, we don't want complacency, we don't want to start celebrating.”

Johannesburg is the worst-affected area in the province with 440 Covid-19 cases, followed by Ekurhuleni (111), Tshwane (90), the West Rand (12) and Sedibeng with six.

One hundred and twenty three people are "unlocated".

Efforts to screen communities to prevent further transmission of the virus is underway.

"We now have 8005 community health care workers who have been trained. We also have 607 health professionals in tracing contacts, conducting screening and testing," said Makhura.

According to Makhura, the province has managed to locate 90% of contacts.
