New Covid-19 cases show another record 24-hour jump

The number of new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in South Africa has jumped by 4 078 in the 24 hours leading up to Wednesday evening.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize reveals in his daily statement that the number of confirmed coronavirus in the country now stands at 80 412.

 

The minister says currently the country has 34 407 active cases.

 

"We also recognise that the number of recoveries continues to rise as well, with the total number to date at 44 331. This translates to a recovery rate of 55.1%," he says.

 

Mkhize says 1 678 people have lost their lives to the virus.

 

"Regrettably, we report a further 49 COVID-19 related deaths - 6 from Eastern Cape and 43 from Western Cape," says Mkhize.
