The facility is one of the sites which will be used to house those who are unable to quarantine and self- isolate.

The sites will also ensure that public and private health facilities are not overburdened as the country battles coronavirus.

The facility’s CEO Craig Newman says they can accommodate over 2 000 people.

"We have a huge capacity here, but the moment we are working with the health authorities to take it one step at the time. We can build exponentially as the need requires, we pray that the need never requires us to get to a high level."

The other facility will be in Tshwane, but the department has not announced the exact venue.

Gauteng Health MEC Bandile Masuku said the government will avoid erecting too many special sites and focus on capacitating the existing public health facilities so that they can continue the work post-Covid-19.
