Somizi expected back in court in July
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Media personality Somizi Mhlongo is expected to appear in court again in July in connection with the charge laid against him by Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula.
Mbalula laid a charge against Mhlongo in Sandton on Saturday after a video emerged in which the Idols judge could be heard telling radio host Dineo Ranaka that “Fikile” told him the lockdown would be extended.
Mhlongo subsequently apologised to Mbalula, who has strenuously denied sharing the information with his celebrity friend.
Police spokesperson Vish Naidoo says Mhlongo handed himself over at Sandton Police Station ahead of his court appearance.
"The case opened by Mbalula, the suspect handed himself at Sandton Police Station and he is expected to appear in court on the 3 July. He was charged and released on R1,500 bail.”
Mhlongo has been charged under the Disaster Management Act which outlaws the spreading of fake news on the coronavirus crisis.
