The Bahanawa Donkey Care Workers: Changing the lives of local villagers

The Blouberg District of rural Limpopo lies far beyond Polokwane, with Bochum being the nearest "big" town.
Members of the Bahanawa tribe live a simple life across ten villages in this area, where donkeys serve as the main means of everyday transport for both people and goods.
About four years ago, veterinarians Dr Isabel Meyer and Prof. Leanne Scott established a training program for local residents to provide basic healthcare services for working donkeys.
This group, known as the Donkey Care Workers, was selected by local leaders to receive the training and fulfil these duties. Daphny Mhuntane serves as the coordinator of the Donkey Care Workers.
