New Hope School: A brighter future for differently abled learners in Pretoria

New Hope is the perfect name for this 50-year-old Pretoria school for differently abled learners. 

The school offers five streams of education to accommodate the abilities of all 435 learners, from pre-school to Grade 12. 

One of these education streams is Skills Development, designed for children who are able to use their hands and creativity to learn practical skills that prepare them for a more independent adulthood.

However, the school previously lacked the proper facilities to adequately teach and practise skills such as hairdressing, woodwork, and catering.

Inspired by the children she teaches, the head of the New Hope School Skills Phase, Karen Meyer, together with the school leadership, set out on an ambitious project to build the necessary facilities.

In this episode of Good Morning Angels: The Legacy, Karen is joined by School Principal Gerhard Venter and Agora Project Management's Oostewald van Niekerk to recount how Angels helped them build more than a building, but a path to a brighter future for generations to come.
