Mam' Khanyi Motsa: A mother to thousands in her Home of Hope
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
Mam' Khanyi has rescued over 17,000 girls since founding Home of Hope in 2000.In this episode of Good Morning Angels: The Legacy, she shares how it all began – and how love, dignity, and hope changed everything.
We met Mam' Khyani in August 2018 – seven years ago.
She founded Home of Hope for Girls in 2000, to provide care for exploited, trafficked and abused girls in the Johannesburg CBD.
It is more than just a residential shelter; it is a loving home where dignity is restored and the girls are given the education, structure and guidance to take control of their futures. Over the past 25 years, Mam' Khanyi has saved 17,000 girls from an uncertain future and a life on the streets of Johannesburg.
According to Mam' Khanyi, many of these girls are orphans or "unwanted" children, lured to the city by unscrupulous agents for pimps and drug-dealers. Most of the girls have grown up to have careers and families of their own, and many volunteer as big sisters – some have graduated from universities and are now successful career women.
In this episode of Good Morning Angels: The Legacy, Mam' Khanyi recalls how it all started, the highs and lows and how Angels have helped her along the way, to be a mother and mentor to thousands.
